RIG MOVE OPERATIONS
ROMONA Int. Ltd provides rig and vessel positioning services during rig
moves. Our team has an extensive experience in rig positioning operations.
The services related to navigation and anchor handling operations
associated with the relocation of the rig. Navigation is provided for both the
rig and tow vessels in a safe and controlled manner. C-NAV and Veripos
GNSS are used to provide decimeter positioning accuracy. The PC based
navigation system HydroPRO is used as a primary navigation software,
QPS Qinsy as secondary QC system. The system incorporates GNSS,
gyrocompasses and a network of radio modems stationed on the rig and
each Anchor Handling Vessel (AHV), it is used for real time navigation,
fleet monitoring and data acquisition during all aspects of the rig move.
Graphical and numerical information is displayed on the helmsman’s
monitor in real time for visualizing the rig move operation.
This is an example of a survey screen displaying all the graphical and
numerical information in real time, underwater structures and objects if there
are any, etc. An AutoCAD drawing can be uploaded into the software with all
underwater structures for the location.

USBL UNDERWATER POSITIONING
ROMONA Int. Ltd provides USBL Underwater Positioning services. Ultra
Short Base Line (USBL) is an underwater positioning system that uses a
vessel mounted transceiver to detect the range and bearing to a target
using acoustic signals. A complete USBL system consists of an acoustic
transceiver, which is mounted on a pole over the side or under the vessel,
one or more transponders located on ROV, sonar tow fish or other
underwater objects, motion sensor, gyro compass, DGNSS positioning
system, vessel mounted hardware and software, associated cabling and
deployment pole upon which the transceiver is mounted.

SSS SURVEY
Applications:

Typically SSS towfish is towed behind the survey vessel.
ROMONA Int. Ltd offers EdgeTech 4200 Side Scan Sonar system.
EdgeTech 4200 system consists
of a towfish and a top side to
interface with PC. It is a versatile
SSS system that can be
configured for shallow and deep
water operations. One of the
unique features of the 4200 is
the Multi Puls technology which
allows it to be towed at
speeds up to 10 knots while still maintaining
100% bottom coverage, it also provides twice
the resolution at normal tow speeds. USBL
positioning, cable counters and/or manual
layback methods can be used to position a
towed fish.
SSS processing software produces side scan
sonar mosaic which is later used for final
charting.
BATHYMETRIC SURVEY
Bathymetry is referred to the ocean’s depth relative to sea level. Multibeam
echo sounders (MBES) collect bathymetric soundings in a swath
perpendicular to the ship track and measure the depth to the seafloor in
discrete angular increments or sectors across the swath. As the transducer
head moves forward, the profiles sweep out a ribbon-shaped surface of
depth measurement (swath).
High-resolution bathymetric
charts are generated as a result
of the survey. These charts
usually show the relief or terrain
as contour lines (isobaths) and
selected depths (soundings) and
may be depicted by color.
Bathymetric charts illustrate the
land that lies underwater.
MBES and SBES are usually
mounted on the pole over the
side of the vessel.

SBP Systems
ROMONA Int. Ltd can provide a various types of seismic and
geophysical equipment. There are several survey systems with own
features:
- pole-mounted conventional Pinger;
- towed Chirp;
- towed Boomer;
- towed Sparker;
- towed multichannel Sparker and 48-channels gel filled streamer.
Sub-Bottom Profilers
PINGER
Pinger SBP system can use on RV or SSB. The Pinger system
consisted of pole-mounted Transducer (Model 132B), Transmitter
Model 5430A. The reflections measured by MiniTrace II device are
displayed as shades on a computer monitor by GeoSuite Acquisition
1.5 software. Data is stored real time into a large capacity hard drive.
The Pinger system summary:
- GeoAcoustics transducer 2x2 Model 132B;
- GeoAcoustics Transmitter Model 5430A;
- GeoMarine Survey Systems MiniTrace II dual acquisition module;
- GeoSuite Acquisition 1.5 software.
The pole-mounted Pinger had a high quality
positioning. The frequency range is 2-12kHz. The
penetration depth is depending on sediments type;
there is about 25 meters for sandy clay. The ping
frequency can change up to 10 pulse per second.
Sparker/Boomer
Sparker/Boomer towed system can mount on RV or SSB. The 24-
hydrophone and/or 8- hydrophone gel filled streamers are used for
seismic signal receiving. Seismic source was mounted on the catamaran.
It was towed at the distance of 40 m from the vessel. Seismic streamer
was towed parallel to the source (at the distance of 3-4 meters). The
reflections measured by MiniTrace II device are displayed as shades on
a computer monitor by GeoSuite Acquisition 1.5 software. Data is stored
real time into a large capacity hard drive.
The Sparker/Boomer system summary:
- Applied Acoustics AA301 seismic sound source;
- Applied Acoustics Squid2000 sparker seismic source;
- 50-meters High Voltage towing cable;
- CSP-D2400 energy sources;
- Geo Marine Survey Systems HR Streamers – GeoSense8E and
GeoSense24E;
- Geo Marine Survey Systems MiniTrace II dual acquisition module;
- GeoSuite Acquisition 1.5 software.
The towed Boomer/Sparker had a lower positioning than pole-
mounted Pinger. The frequency ranges are: 2-2.5kHz for Boomer and
1kHz for Sparker. The penetration depth is depending on sediments
type; there is about 30-50 meters for sandy clay. The ping frequency
can change up to 2-3 pulse per second for Boomer and up to 1 pulse
per second for Sparker.
The Pinger and Sparker/Boomer towed systems can work
“synchronously” when the 3-5 Pinger’s shots are corresponded to one
Sparker/Boomers’ shot.

Ultra High Resolution Seismic
ROMONA bought new solid seismic system for HRS and UHRS Geo Eel
manufactured by Geometrics in October of 2012. Installation of new
system to the vessel was performed at February of 2013.
The main task of 2D UHR engineering survey
is to perform the general assessment of the
engineering-geological conditions at the
survey area. There are many applications; for
example semi-submersible drilling rigs
(SSDR) installation.
The 2D UHR system consisted of multi-
channel streamer with mounted controllers
(depth, direction, distance) and seismic
source with gun controller.
The 2D HRS system summary:
- Geometrics GeoEel Solid streamer (Group Interval 6.250m,
Number of Channels 192, Active Streamer Length 1200 m) with
CNT-2 Marine Controller;
- ION Geophysical (formerly DigiCourse) Streamer Depth
Controller (DigiBIRD models: 5010, 5010-2, 5011E, 5011E-2);
- GunLink-2000 SeaMap gun controller (near field hydrophone,
line pressure sensor, depth sensor, etc);
- Seismic cluster with 4x40cu inch Sleeve Gun – IC (SeaMap);
- SeaMap Buoylink EX system (tail buoy) for streamer
positioning.
- С-15 caterpillar, GreenField D65A compressor, winches, etc.
There are next survey parameters: the seismic traces Sample
Rate from 0.125 to 1 milliseconds; expected source bandwidth is
about 50-500 Hz; shot point interval is 6.25 m; expected Survey
Speed is about 3.5-4.0 knots.
The 2D UHR system summary:
